It appears that Paige Bueckers was feeling the pressure of living up to high expectations this week. It all started when Texas coach Geno Auriemma criticized her performance during a game that resulted in a loss for UConn. Additionally, Bueckers advised reporters on Friday to steer clear of social media, where she had gained a lot of attention.
Although she had been averaging close to 20 points per game in her first season following her ACL injury, she didn’t look exactly like her former self during the past eight games. And recently Bueckers herself admitted how these high stakes had been affecting her.

In Sunday’s Hall of Fame Showcase at Mohegan Sun Arena, Bueckers put on a display of sheer brilliance as UConn defeated North Carolina 76-64. Her 26 points on 11-for-14 shooting from the field included some highlight-worthy plays that are sure to make the rounds on social media.
However, Bueckers, who was named the MVP of the game, mentioned that while she had been mentally stressed out, doing what she loved helped her get back to her old self. The player revealed, “I think I’ve just had a lot going on mentally, stressing out myself. I think today I just get back to having fun playing basketball.”
True to her words, Bueckers seemed to have overcome the mental pressure as she went on to create a historic night in her career. Huskies needed a win after trailing North Carolina 5-3 going into the game, and Bueckers did all in her power to make sure they got one. The youngster also tied Maya Moore for the fastest time to earn 1,000 career points.

Bueckers: The star of the night
Bueckers was more than simply a point producer. She grabbed three thefts, blocked four shots, and lunged for loose balls. When it was hard to find offense, Bueckers gave the Huskies what they needed. UConn scored the first of its 11 points in the second half to break the deadlock. The game was knotted at the half. The Huskies led 65-49 after three quarters and outscored North Carolina 29-13 in the stanza.With 17 points in the first half, Bueckers gave UConn an 11-point advantage in the second quarter.
