The LSU Tigers have made a resurgent comeback after their hiccup in the season opener against Colorado. Amidst rumors of friction between Angel Reese and Kim Mulkey, the defending champions make their trip toward University Center. Following this, they took the court in the absence of their team captain.

The Lady Tigers further extended their winning streak in an all-Louisiana affair with a resounding 73-50 victory over the Lady Lions. The LSU looked in total control throughout and covered every aspect of their game. This staggering performance came in the backdrop of the alleged bickering between the coach and the celebrated player. Kim’s cold snub during the presser further fueled these notions.

The Lady Tigers carry on their winning momentum

The Tigers made a promising start leading SLU by 10 points in the first quarter. The talented guard Last-Tear Poa leading the scoring chart with 6 points. LSU’s latest shooting star Mikayla Williams impressed yet again in the absence of Reese scoring 5 points. Flau’jae Johnson and Aneesah Morrow also chipped in with valuable contributions. The Lady Lions showed some fightback in the second quarter and tried to close the gap. Nonetheless, Johnson didn’t let the game slip away as the Tigers were in command at half-time leading 41-30.

Both teams came out firing in the third quarter. However, LSU’s No.4 Flau’jae Johnson picked up pace in her scoring and extended LSU’s lead. Combining with Mikayla Williams, she broke the back of any resistance arising from SLU camps. By the end of the third quarter, the Tigers were sitting pretty with a healthy lead of 24 points.It was all too easy for LSU in the final quarter as they kept on scoring. They pounced on every opportunity coming their way and didn’t give SLU any chance to make a comeback.

The 2023 SEC Freshman of the Year Flau’jae Johnson led the charge registering her first double-double of the season. The new recruit for LSU this season, Aneesah Morrow also joined the party as she ended her night on 10 points and 11 rebounds.

Flau’jae Johnson took things into her hands and led the Lady Tigers to victory in the absence of her friend and teammate Angel Reese. The talented No.4 of the Lady Tigers had an impressive outing scoring 17 points and 10 points. In addition to this, she also had 3 assists to her name. Moreover, Johnson didn’t let the absence of the All-American forward–Angel Reese– affect the team’s performance. She lit up the University Center arena with her scintillating exhibition.

The LSU Tigers are showing glimpses of their previous season’s success  There is no denying that the Lady Tigers are very versatile and flexible. This outing was just an example of how tough the team is even without their Final Four MVP–Angel Reese.
