MiLaysia Fulwiley, South Carolina’s guard, is becoming a new court sensation. So far, her performance in this season has been nothing short of phenomenal. She has been averaging 12 points, 2.9 rebounds, and 2.9 assists per game. Moreover, her impressive 47.7% field goal percentage has been stealing the hearts of the fans.

Earlier this season, Fulwiley sent shockwaves, as she averaged 15.6 points, 3.6 rebounds, and 3.6 assists, living up to the expectations. Surely MiLaysia has been gifted many traits from her parents.

There are no strong ties between MiLaysia’s family and sports. However, her mother Phelliccia aka Phea Mixon is a passionate basketball fan. Evidently, when MiLaysia was little, her mother Phea used to take her to watch USC matchups very often, as they took place near their home.

With these outings, MiLaysia’s love for basketball grew as a toddler. USC Gamecocks became her favorite team, and now she’s living the dream as their guard.

Clearly, MiLaysia’s mother’s passion for basketball was transferred to her daughter, who pursued it and has been conquering the hardwood ever since. Evidently, little MiLaysia did tell her mother that someday she would play for the ‘real’ team at the age of 4.

How did MiLaysia develop her basketball skills?

The USC Freshman has attended W.J. Keenan High School in Columbia, where she earned recognition for her outstanding gameplay. In her middle school season, she started displaying a strong potential for basketball. As a result, her mother signed her up for the AAU program. Interestingly, at the program, she was a teammate with Ashlyn Watkins, current USC’s forward.

In just seventh grade, MiLaysia led her team to 3 consecutive state titles. Moreover, she averaged 25.6 points, 9.1 rebounds, and 6.2 assists per game in her senior season. Eventually, she became W. J. Kenan’s all-time leading scorer with more than 3000 points when she completed her high school career.

Impressively, Fulwiley bagged 17 points, 6 assists, and 6 steals in her debut game in Paris where her mother Phea had traveled to watch her play, making the event a special one for both.

Moreover, in her recent matchup with Morgan State Lady Bears, MiLaysia scored 14 points, 1 rebound and 6 assists, along with Tessa Johnson, who scored 16 points, 1 rebound, and 1 assist, hence leading the South Carolina Gamecocks to a glorious 104-38 win.
