Hailey Van Lith, one of the best-returning guards in women’s college basketball, made her transfer to LSU in an unexpected move that shocked the basketball community. Van Lith made the decision to transfer as she entered her final years of eligibility at the University of Louisville after three outstanding seasons.  This was made possible by the extra COVID year provided by the NCAA. She joined LSU as a graduate student after graduating from Louisville in May with a degree in finance.

Recently, Hailey Van Lith joined her teammates to show off her ‘moves’ with the team for the first time.

With classes in LSU beginning late in August, point guard Hailey Van Lith formally arrived on campus recently. With this, LSU women’s basketball Super Team has completed its outstanding lineup. Van Lith, regarded as the top transfer this summer, is set to help coach Kim Mulkey’s LSU team in its quest for greatness.

The former Louisville basketball star Hailey Van Lith spent her summer competing with the USA Basketball 3×3 women’s team. The team won the prestigious FIBA World Cup 3×3 gold medal and numerous other international honors.

Following her arrival on campus, Hailey Van Lith recently made her first appearance along with a few LSU basketball team members.

In a video Angel Reese posted on her Instagram story, Lith stood next to her teammates, showing off her dance moves on the basketball court.  She was clad in the LSU jersey, with the number 11 imprinted.

Van Lith is an essential addition to LSU as the team looks to make up the gaping hole after losing point guard Alexis Morris to graduation. Van Lith was essential in last season’s Louisville team’s advancement to the Elite Eight. The Washington native displayed her talent while playing at Louisville, averaging 19.7 points, 3.2 assists and four rebounds per game.

It’ll be interesting to see how the 21-year-old fares under Coach Kim Mulkey, who just secured a historic deal.

Coach Mulkey signs a historic agreement with LSU

Louisiana State University and head coach Kim Mulkey have signed a historic deal on a 10-year, $32 million contract extension. In the event that the board of supervisors approves this ground-breaking agreement, it will be the highest-paying contract in the annals of women’s collegiate basketball.

The new deal does not include incentives or extra benefits, with an average yearly value exceeding $3 million. Kim Mulkey’s basic compensation will begin at $2.75 million in the first year and rise gradually by $100,000 per year until it reaches $3.65 million in 2032, the final year of the deal. Furthermore, Mulkey is eligible for incentives associated with the NCAA tournament worth up to $550,000 annually. This includes a $230,000 prize for winning the national title.

Geno Auriemma of UConn previously held the record for the highest-paid women’s basketball coach, making $2.9 million a year.

Kim Mulkey, 61, made history by guiding LSU to its first national championship. Her 60-8 record throughout her two seasons at LSU is remarkable. She now holds the 19th-best record in women’s college basketball history with 692 victories. With Hailey Van Lith joining the LSU, it’ll be interesting to see how Mulkey incorporates her into the team.
