Bryant University’s head coach Jared Grasso is reportedly resigning from his position after the North Smithfield Police dropped the charges filed against him a month ago. Grasso had failed to stop for an accident and was booked under a misdemeanor.

Notably, it was an eyewitness present at the scene on Route 146 and the video footage of the same that helped in the identification of Grasso’s vehicle.

After acquitted of all the charges, ESPN College Basketball Insider, Jeff Borzello shared the news of coach’s possible departure on his X handle:

The charges, notably, were dropped after the liability of the matter was accepted by Grasso’s insurance company. As an effect of the incident, Grasso was placed under administrative leave by the University, while they investigated his personal conduct during the time. Associate Coach Phill Martelli Jr. had stepped up as the acting head coach for the Bulldogs.

While Grasso’s course of action after this chain of uncertain events lies in uncertainty, some fans express frustration, claiming that the coach’s extended absence impacted the team’s performance and should have been addressed sooner.

Replying to this tweet, a user namely Matt Hands said, “No one knows. He was put on leave without any explanation. He then was allegedly in a hit and run a few days later but that case was dropped. And now he’s resigned. My guess was always some kind of substance abuse issue but I have no info whatsoever, just a hunch.”

Many fans simply termed it as a mental health related episode. Even if resigning was his decision, anther one said, “which I doubt, he didn’t have much control over this.”
