It’s been nearly a month since Nike did a clean sweep this year. The footwear giant brought in thirteen rookies under their roof, with exclusive shoe deals for all of them. While many considered that to be a dominant move by Nike, many wondered, how would the other companies bounce back from it.

It turns out that Adidas is not willing to let this go without a fight. The company has brought in Darryn Peterson to their roster, for a multi-year NIL shoe deal. This deal holds great significance in more ways than one. Let’s have a look at what helped Peterson to be considered for such a lucrative deal.

Adidas bags Darryn Peterson

Peterson is on the rise, and with such a lucrative deal at the age of 16, best believe he’s destined for greatness. The record-breaking deal with Adidas will only boost the youngster’s zeal to be better. Additionally, he comes from a family of athletes. His father played basketball during his school and college days whereas his elder brother Darryl Peterson III plays football. As a freshman at CVCA, Peterson averaged 26.1 points per game with 10.5 rebounds and 5.8 assists. He led his team to a 16-8 record bringing laurels to him as Peterson was named Division II Northeast Inland District Player of the Year and he was a finalist for the Ohio Mr. Basketball award as well.

Peterson is a top prospect for the class of 2025 and this NIL deal is going to push his name further in that conversation. Nick DePaula of ESPN posted the big news on X. He wrote, “BREAKING: Adidas has landed their 1st High School NIL athlete, signing top class of 2025 star prospect Darryn Peterson to a multi-year NIL shoe deal.”

The 16-year-old attends the Huntington Prep School and is a consensus five-star recruit for the class of 2025.

The future looks bright for Darryn Peterson

Born in Canton, Ohio Peterson has already embarked upon a journey that will only make him better by the day. Apart from his high school career, Peterson has also made his mark on the global stage. He is a gold medalist for Team USA. He led his team to glory at the 2023 FIBA Under-16 Americas Championship in Mexico.

He averaged 16.8 points points per game with 3.8 rebounds, and 3.7 assists throughout the tournament. The 16-year-old topped it off with a phenomenal performance in the final with 13 points and seven assists.
