The 18-year-old made a scintillating start to her college career by breaking multiple records that garnered her several awards. JuJu Watkins was recently invited to the Dodgers stadium to perform a special task. Seemingly, the 2024 USBWA National Freshman of the Year was entrusted with the ceremonial first pitch for the Freeway Series game featuring the Los Angeles Angels and Dodgers. But before that, there was a surprise waiting for her at the Dodger Stadium. Seemingly, the 7x World Series champions extended their wishes to the 6 ft 2 in for a successful season with the Trojans and gifted her a custom jersey. The moment was indeed exceptional for Watkins as the camera recorded her, expressing her elation.
Moments later, Watkins approached to diamond in a nervous state to carry out this memorable undertaking. “This is probably the most nervous I’ve ever been. Basketball comes easy, not baseball. “ She said before the pitch. Following this, she confirmed that she would be using her left hand due to a sprained right index finger. Anyhow, after warming up, Watkins decided to go with her dominant hand and struck the ball to Dodger’s pitcher Gavin Stone. Later, she shared her experience by saying, “I always see it on social media. Never did I think I would be throwing a pitch.”

Following her pitch, she enjoyed the game with her parents and a cousin after giving the traditional pre-game call of “It’s time for Dodger baseball.” However, this is not the only eventful evening that came the way of JuJu Watkins in recent times.

According to a recent Watkins’ Instagram story, the dynamic No.12 attended the Sports Beach 2024 live show. 4× WNBA champion Sue Bird along with her partner and soccer icon Megan Rapinoe also graced this Women’s Sports House event with their presence.
The platform focuses on the development of women across various industries. As a revolutionary figure in women’s college basketball, she shared the podium and had productive conversations with fellow accomplished panelists.
This kind of recognition further proves the point of how JuJu Watkins has impacted women’s basketball.
