Controversy doesn’t seem to leave Sheryl Swoopes. The WNBA legend is at the receiving end of some intense backlash as her ignorance gave the fans an opening to go after her. At the heart of this raging and renewed flak is Caitlin Clark. Swoopes’ sweeping statement about the NCAA table-topper broke all hell loose.

Clark’s counterpart Angel Reese mediated and helped Swoopes to make peace with her. But, Sheryl finds herself in the target zone of Jason Whitlock after her attempt to issue an apology took an unexpected turn.

As it turns out, the four-time WNBA champion circled back to Gil’s Arena to make amends with Caitlin Clark. However, her apology didn’t go down well with Jason as he explicitly stated that she made matters worse for herself. He said, “This is comical. Sheryl Swoope’s clarification is every bit as dumb and problematic as her original criticism of Caitlin Clark. Swoopes is 52, but she thinks and talks and acts like an 18-year-old college freshman.” Swoopes has been under a lot of fire ever since her comments about Clark. She criticized the time period Clark is taking to take down Kelsey Plum’s record.

It was after a while that she realized that both of them accomplished the feat in their senior campaign. Following this, she reached out to LSU’s No.10 Angel Reese. With her help, she sent a message to Caitlin and later connected with her to clear the air. It appears that her apology was just her trying to publicly acknowledge her mistake. Instead, an absurd justification from her end got the negative spotlight back on her.
