Remembering 6 Athletes who Lost Their Lives Tragically, Stephen Curry’s Godsister Cameron Brink Joins Special Initiative

While the glitz and glamour of being a professional athlete is glorified by most people not many are aware of the sacrifices it takes to become one. With athletes today earning in millions it is easy to forget that they too are simply human. Although the money is a sweet incentive, fans often ignore the physical and mental toll that sportsmen experience with many believing that large salaries can extinguish most pain. While that may be true for physical ailments the same cannot be said about mental illness.

Depression and other mental health problems have marred the youth of today and its reflection is clear in the NCAA level as well. Many athletes have succumbed to the pressure created by the illnesses with suicides rates increasing by the year. Collegiate star Cameron Brink recently iterated on this as she joined a special initiative online by remembering six athletes who lost their lives to this tragedy.

Cameron Brink shows solidarity for special initiative on Instagram

Stanford Cardinals star Cameron Brink recently showed her solidarity towards an initiative on suicide prevention as she took to her Instagram to post a story. Sharing a post by ‘hopeforathletes‘ the 6’4 forward reposted a collage of six athletes who succumbed to mental health issues as the account tried to spread awareness about suicide within collegiate sports.

While there have been more than six deaths related to suicide in collegiate sports the six aforementioned athletes were the ones that rocked the nation the most.

Athletes Lauren Bernett, Tyler Hilinski, Morgan Rogers, Robert Martin, Katie Meyer, and Sarah Shulze were all highlighted as the account captioned the post with a message stating, “September is Suicide Prevention Month. Suicide within collegiate sports has become an epidemic. It seems like each semester we lose one or two more athletes to suicide. Something needs to change.” Brink who recently made history of her own shared the post as she tried to educate her followers about the importance of open and honest conversations.

God sister to Stephen Curry Cardinal star Cameron Brink makes history of her own

While Cameron’s latest Instagram story reiterated a strong message for today’s youth her own career so far has been a motivation to many. Winning the NCAA championship in 2021 the god sister to GSW star Stephen Curry has already made history during her short career as she became the first woman basketball athlete to sign a deal with New Balance.

Snubbing her god brother’s company to forge her own path Brink is a great example of youthful brilliance as she looks to make history with the Massachusetts based brand. The deal will see her take part in lifestyle and performance campaigns as the 21-year-old looks to motivate the younger generation for years to come.
