A few years back Naomi Osaka decided to opt out of French Open and as a result, she received some heavy criticism from the media and the fans. Several WNBA stars, including A’ja Wilson, spoke out in favor of Osaka. Wilson was quoted as saying, “We’re already emotional creatures and it’s just like I just want to do my job and be good at it because I know I worked hard. And then on top of that, if I mess up one little tile I’m in cancel culture or I’m getting bashed, and that’s hard to take in. So I really like to give snaps to Naomi for doing that because it’s like it’s tough, it’s hard.” Wilson pointed out the fact that we always expect women in sports to be perfectionists and get undue hate. It was heartening to see the WNBA star coming out supporting Osaka.
