It’s likely that Derrick Rose might not see out the season with the Detroit Pistons. The Detroit Pistons could trade key point guard, Rose. However, the Pistons want a lottery pick in compensation for the former MVP. This will put off many teams. A lottery pick for a bench player is too high a price for many.

Rose is in the midst of a resurgent season. As a sixth man of the year contender, he is averaging 18.9 points and 6 assists a game, on nearly 50% field goal accuracy. It’s the best season he’s had since he won his MVP award in 2011.

Rose is in the midst of a resurgent season. He’s one of the key players in the Pistons, along with Andre Drummond and Blake Griffin. The Pistons had hoped to make a strong challenge for the playoffs with these three leading the team.

That has unfortunately not come to pass. The Pistons possess a 17-32 record. That’s good enough for 10th in the Eastern Conference and 5 games behind a playoff spot. Injuries have taken their toll. Key players such as Blake Griffin, Luke Kennard and Markief Morris have all missed time.

Derrick Rose and Andre Drummond have been the only bright spots in a challenging season.  Rose has scored 20 or more points for 13 straight games. It is the best such mark in his career.  His numbers are worthy for being a viable sixth man of the year winner.

Teams are no doubt interested in Rose, as he can add firepower for the second units of various teams. The Los Angeles Lakers and Philadelphia 76ers have strongly been linked with a trade for Rose.

Arguably beyond his on-court production, Rose is on a team-friendly contract. His contract is worth $15 million over two seasons.

The Pistons are likely sellers as the trade window approaches. They have already been shopping Andre Drummond. If their star man is on the move, it’s a clear indication that the team is heading into a rebuild. It signals that the team will shop Rose and other team members.

Rose is certainly worth some assets. However, the asking price of the Pistons could put off potential buyers. The Lakers and 76ers will not get any lottery picks in the upcoming draft. They are primed for playoff runs, putting them out of the draft lottery.

Middling teams might surrender a draft lottery to acquire Rose. The Chicago Bulls may welcome Rose back. The Bulls are in need of a good point guard. However, they are a rebuilding roster, and may not need an experienced veteran taking minutes away from their youngsters.

However, if the Pistons reduce their offer, it’s easy to see Rose moving to a contending team this season. Or else he will continue rebuilding his reputation with the Pistons and might move in the off-season. What’s certain is the Pistons and Rose’s ambition are heading for a fork in the road.

The Pistons are one of the big sellers to watch as the transfer window deadline approaches on 6th February.
