While some deals on trade deadline day weren’t as huge as in years past, that did not mean that teams did not dramatically change their identity. As a result, it brought forth a ton of conversation, especially inside the TNT studio. While Charles Barkley went heavy on the praise, his co-host was more subdued. Shaquille O’Neal isn’t ready to crown any winners yet.
For Barkley, however, the clear winner was one team. “The Knicks did get better. Because, I watched them play the Lakers the other night, and the Lakers did was take the ball out of [Jalen] Brunson’s hand, and nobody else could make a shot. They went, like, 7 minutes in that game.”
But the team that is coming in next? “I love what the Mavs did. To me, they had the second-best trade deadline today.” But the Los Angeles Lakers legend remained unmoved. Due to the lack of big-name moves, he believes no team has been able to stand out for themselves.

Shaq questioned, “Will it help the Knicks get better? Yes. Will it help them win a Championship? No. So, it don’t matter. Can they beat Boston? Can they beat Philly? Can they beat Cleveland now? Can they beat Milwaukee?” On the other hand, the Philadelphia 76ers legend wasn’t willing to give a straight answer. “I don’t know that yet.”

Charles Barkley vs Shaquille O’Neal: Needle Mover or Inconsequential?
On an emotional night with the Kobe Bryant statue being unveiled, the air was thick with emotions. However, both O’Neal and the Chuckster had valid points. Since acquiring OG Anunoby, the Knicks have been amongst the best teams in the league. As a result, a few valuable additions at the fringes could solidify them into top-tier contenders.

However, with a lack of major big names, it might be inadequate. While New York has built its current iteration through continuity and hard work, will it be enough to overcome the raw talent of the likes of Philly, Boston, and Milwaukee? With “ring culture” taking center stage evermore, could these moves prove to be inconsequential in the end?
