In the NBA match between the Philadelphia 76ers and Washington Wizards, there was a heated exchange between Joel Embiid and Wizards big man Montrezl Harrell in the third quarter. Both these players received a double technical foul when the altercation had subsided.
The Philadelphia 76ers won the match against the Washington Wizards by a score of 117-96. This victory was much needed for the Philadelphia side, who had lost three out of their last four fixtures.
A few seconds after the two players clashed with each other, Harrell had a tussle with Embiid again.

In the absence of teammates, NBA health and safety protocols place additional pressure on players
A number of NBA teams have been affected by health and safety protocols, including the Sixers, who are without Danny Green, Andre Drummond, and Shake Milton. The Washington side was also without their pivotal players on the court.
Despite the fact that the pressure to win is always present on every team, the aggression between the players is still unjustifiable because it is necessary to keep one’s calm under duress.

In Embiid’s explanation, he mentions: “I don’t think he made a play on the ball. He got me pretty hard and we got tangled. That was really it. He was holding me and tried to hold me.”
Further, he mentioned that, considering how important his play was for his team, he should be extra careful about these types of feuds and ignore them as much as possible.
Post-match, Harrell was questioned about the tussle that had taken place, and he said:
“He got an and-one, he wanted to yell in my face and stuff like that. I pushed him off… He was ‘Oh, oh, I got pushed.’ Stand on your toughness bro. If you are so tough and you’re you know, stand on that my dude. Don’t start doing the nitpicking and the pointing and wanting to do that talking when the ref walks by. Stand on that my guy, because as you see, I am.”

Embiid stated that his goal was to get inside his opponent’s head. It worked and Embiid is proud of himself. He pushed Harrell out of his comfort zone, which was important since toying with your opponent’s mind is a part of the tactic.
