It’s official, the Charlotte Hornets have bid forward Nicolas Batum adieu after 5 years of service. However, shortly after this development, it seemed like Batum had already decided on his next location, LA Clippers.
Batum built a hefty reputation with the Hornets, but for all bad reasons. He signed a huge deal with the team but never lived up to it. As a result, it was regarded as one of the worst deals in NBA history.
However, this move to the Clippers could offer him an opportunity to redeem himself.

The Clippers’ bench was regarded as one of the deepest in the league. However, in the Playoffs, the team failed to hit the jackpot and were sent home in just the 2nd round.
Moreover, they lost the 2020 NBA Sixth Man of the Year, Montrezl Harrell. Therefore, they are definitely on the hunt for someone to fill this void.
Is Nicolas Batum a good fit for the LA Clippers?
Talking about his role with the team, it is quite evident that he will not be starting for them. Considering how the 2 major positions that he plays in are small forward and shooting guard, occupied by Kawhi Leonard and Paul George.
However, Batum’s defensive ability could be a plus point for the Clippers. They could very well use him to shut their opponents’ offense down when the starters find themselves on the sidelines.

Additionally, despite his 6’9″ frame, Batum has great playmaking skills, which is an ability that every team loves. Batum will be turning 32-years-old before the season begins, and he has seen his fair share of playoff basketball as well.
Nicolas Batum’s playoff experience can come in handy in tight situations come playoff time. The Clippers, in particular, need someone like him as we saw what happened when Leonard and George had an off night in the decisive Game 7 of the Western Semis.

But he is coming off of an injury-ridden season where he averaged just 3.6 points per game. So maybe this can be a worrisome prospect for the franchise.
