The NBA season has officially wrapped up in a neat little bow. Speaking of presents, the 2023-24 NBA championship has been gift-wrapped for the Boston Celtics. All they had to do was beat the Dallas Mavericks, and they understood the assignment perfectly. Out of five games, they only lost one, and the Celtics triumphed in the final game with a score of 106-88.
Naturally, the team will want to celebrate with all their fans. The best way to do that is to throw a parade, and the city of Boston is going all out. On the back of the victory city mayor Michelle Wu green-lit preparations for the team’s upcoming parade to celebrate the team’s 18th title. On the itinerary, the main event features the triumphant Celtics players riding on Duck Boats. These floats will run from TD Garden on Causeway Street to Boylston Street. With the city buzzing with excitement, it’s set to be a celebration to remember.

During the upcoming Boston Celtics parade, you might wonder about the unique vehicles transporting the triumphant players. In a nutshell, duck boats are formally known as DUKW and were in use during World War II. These vehicles boasted six wheels and were also amphibious, meaning that they could run in water as well. Now, military technology has improved in leaps and bounds since then, and the DUKWs were soon decommissioned. Since these vehicles still work, the city of Boston is putting them to use, ferrying the Celtics players during the parade.
Mayor Michelle Wu proudly stated, “We are so proud of the Celtics players on and off the basketball court and are ecstatic to host a celebration for banner number 18. While we know how to host a parade in the city of champions, we are reminding everyone to celebrate responsibly, stay hydrated and mindful of the hot temperatures, and reach out to one of the many public safety officials who will be present along the route if you see something that needs attention.”
Amid preparations, some concerns are popping up
It is also worth mentioning that former Celtics player Paul Pierce also gifted NBA media personality Skip Bayless, tickets to the parade. Though the truth is, even though the excitement and anticipation for the parade is building, Mayor Wu has some fears. She teamed up with Boston public safety officials to warn spectators about soaring temperatures. It also went without saying that law enforcement will also be on the lookout for underage drinking and alcohol consumption. To help in relief, plans are also being established to erect misting tents and cooling towels at City Hall Plaza and the Boston Common.

After the excitement building for the Boston Celtics’ victory parade, additional considerations are shaping the event. The city has been left reeling, thanks to a heat emergency. However, there is some respite in sight, as reports suggest that the heatwave could end in time for the parade. As per reports, for the duration of the parade, the plan is to shut down vehicle traffic at West End, Downtown, and Back Bay. Furthermore, the city is also imposing a parking ban in the mentioned areas from midnight onwards. All that is left is for the team to show up and the party to get started.
