LeBron James is among the greatest of all times, both on and off the court. While on court, he lets his game do the talking, outside the court he’s known to voice out his opinion on things that he condemns. He publicly lashed out at China when they went against protestors in Hong Kong and even went out after Donald Trump for his comments before he was elected as the US President.

Today, LeBron James used the power of his social  to condemn the tragic murder of Ahmaud Arbery. Ahmaud, a 25 years old male, was killed while jogging through a southern Georgia neighbourhood by two white men. It caused an uproar in the country with people coming out on social media protesting and demanding an immediate arrest of the two said individuals. The video of him being shot was also made available on social media. Police suspect that he was a victim of racial abuse and was shot dead for the same reason.

He tweeted, “We’re literally hunted EVERYDAY/EVERYTIME we step foot outside the comfort of our homes! Can’t even go for a damn jog man! Like WTF man are you kidding me?!?!?!?!?!? No man fr ARE YOU KIDDING ME!!!!! I’m sorry Ahmaud(Rest In Paradise) and my prayers and blessings sent to the heavens above to your family!!#StayWoke #ProfiledCauseWeAreSimplyBlack”

LeBron being very active on social media, posts regularly about his workout regime, his Taco Tuesdays and more. His posts are usually joyous. But the tweet mentioned clearly showcases the anger he has because of the sad incident. To think that even in 2020 people are getting racially abused and even killed for the same reason is horrible.

As mentioned, he is thoroughly engaged as an activist. A large part of his donations and activism is directed towards Akron, his home town. He has a public elementary school under him, called the “I Promise School”. He’s regularly contributed through his multiple charities for education and health services in the city and continues to leave a mark.

There are very few athletes who are able to use their influence to correct what is wrong. Many don’t seem to care, or even if they do, their actions seem otherwise. LeBron James is not the same. He knows the power he has over people and how he needs to use it to spread the right message. He’s a strong individual, indeed.
