The Los Angeles Lakers recently added Marc Gasol to their roster after winning the 2020 NBA Championship. Ahead of his move to the Lakers, there were many teams interested in signing Gasol.
However, the former Defensive Player of the Year revealed that the purple and gold were actually one of the first teams to give him a call.
“I think there’s a bunch of cool backstories about me joining the Lakers. Me being drafted, and watching Pau throughout all his years here, just watching him grow.”

Marc was drafted by the Lakers but was traded on the draft night itself. However, more than a decade later, the two have finally reunited. Although Gasol is past his prime, he can still be a force on the defensive end.
Moreover, after Dwight Howard and JaVale McGee’s departure, LA certainly needed a player of his caliber. Gasol can efficiently guard the paint, which will give Anthony Davis more leeway to attack.
Marc Gasol said the chance to win another title was high among his priorities in choosing to come to the Lakers. The 2019 champion with Toronto said he identifies with the defensive and extra pass mentality of Frank Vogel and his new teammates.

Marc Gasol was an instrumental part of the championship roster for the Raptors. If he can bring the same production for the Lakers, he will have a great chance to win the second ring of his career.
Furthermore, Marc’s brother Pau Gasol is already a team legend, it will be a great sight to see him follow in his brother’s footsteps.

LA have been busy during the NBA free agency, they made some pretty good signings this year. Apart from Marc Gasol, they have added Montrezl Harrell, Dennis Schroder, and Wesley Matthews to the roster as well.
These signings have made their bench much better, along with a solid starting lineup. Even in their 2020 championship run, the Lakers’ bench was phenomenal when it mattered the most.

So these upgrades are definitely the signs of better things for the purple and gold. Moreover, their superstar duo of LeBron James and Anthony Davis will take care of most of the offensive load. This will aid in boosting the morale of the team’s bench.
Taking all things into account, the team might have gone up a notch as compared to last year. So winning back-to-back NBA championships definitely seems a reasonable goal for the purple and gold.
