Giannis Antetokounmpo, the 25-year-old NBA superstar is on every team’s wish-list for next season and rightly so. The ‘Greek Freak’ is often considered to be Kareem’s successor as the next Milwaukee Bucks big man. The reigning MVP’s next stop has been the topic of numerous debates this year. ESPN’s Tim Bontemps thinks that it is “no secret” that the Toronto Raptors will go after Giannis in free agency. The reigning MVP is having a spectacular season and is en route to win the award for the second straight year.

The Toronto Raptors’ Résumé

The reigning NBA champs are likely contenders for landing Giannis Antetokounmpo by the 2021-2022  season. Toronto Raptors have made their case as they are in the second position behind the bucks with a 46-18 record. Apart from having young superstars like Pascal Siakam and Fred Vanvleet, The Raps also have an all-star point guard in Kyle Lowry. Various sources have cited that Giannis is fed up with the Bucks’ poor playoff history and is likely to leave after this season if the Bucks don’t win the championship this season. Going into the next season, the Raptors will also have enough cap space to make the deal financially viable for Giannis.

Toronto’s Competition for Giannis Antetokounmpo

Over the past few months, there has been ample speculation about the Greek Freak’s next destination. The Golden State Warriors were the first in the conversation and then the Miami Heat. After losing Kevin Durant in a trade and the ‘Splash Brothers’ to injuries, The Warriors have had an unstable season. The Warriors have the worst record in the league and will probably land a very high pick in the draft. This will make Golden State an even more attractive destination for Giannis next season as Stephen Curry and Klay Thomson will be back.

Another team that has a shot at landing Giannis Antetokounmpo is the Miami Heat. A big 3 consisting of Jimmy Butler, Bam Adebayo, and Giannis will be a great asset to the team. The Heat also has young talents like Tyler Herro and Duncan Robinson which makes it a better option for Giannis in the long run.
