Luka Doncic is undoubtedly leading the “Who after LeBron James” debate. He is an explosive offensive player and somebody who can single-handedly win games. This got proved in the playoffs where a Kristaps-less Mavericks still managed to bother a more talented Clippers.

The Slovenian player has just gotten started, and it’s only a matter of time before the league begins to shower him with individual accolades. In the upcoming season, the star will be the 138th highest paid NBA player in the league. While that might still not reflect well on his capability, the following comment does.

Recently, an NBA scout made a statement that turned many heads. He exclaimed, “I’d say LeBron but I’ll tell you that motherf—er in Dallas is coming… That dude is going to win multiple MVPs.”

Luka was the Rookie of the Year 2019 and also became the NBA All-star, merely two seasons into the league. The Dallas Mavericks for all the obvious reasons picked up the 4th year option on his rookie contract to assure him a sum of $10.17 million in 2021-22.

On the other hand, LeBron James was second to only Giannis Antetokounmpo from winning an MVP award in 2020. The 4-time NBA champion is well past his own prime but still good enough to match others’ primes.

But can he do better than the likes of Luka? Seems unlikely because if Luka picks from where he left off, it’s going to be only him and nobody in the rear-view mirror.

Luka is ruthlessly physical when handling the ball and projects amazing passing skills. His pick-and-rolls have proved efficient for the side, and that speaks strongly about his basketball IQ. Last but not least, his shot creation has been phenomenal, and that alone has made him a feared name on the NBA grid.

The shooting guard was just thinly short of averaging a triple-double in the 2019-20 regular season. Can he pull a Russell Westbrook kind of performance in terms of averaging triple-doubles? Chances are strong.

To support him in the upcoming season, there are players like Josh Richardson, Tim Hardaway Jr, Dorian Finney-Smith, Maxi Kleber, and of course Kristaps’ Porzingis. Do you think he can lift the MVP trophy this year?
