In an attempt to fix their roster for the upcoming season, the Philadelphia 76ers have been quite active. The Sixers wanted to improve the floor’s spacing so that their two stars, Ben Simmons and Joel Embiid, can function better. This came with the decision to acquire Seth Curry from the Dallas Mavericks. And his brother, Stephen Curry, revealed Seth’s instant reaction to being traded.

Let’s first talk about why bringing in Seth helps the Sixers. Philadelphia traded Josh Richardson and the 36th pick in the NBA draft for Seth. During his time with Dallas, Curry shot 45.2% from the deep. This is precisely the success the Sixers are hoping he will replicate for the next season.

His elder brother Stephen Curry is one of the best three-point shooters in the league. Even though there is a constant comparison between the two, Seth is no less. His three-point shooting will be an asset for a team that lacks in that area.

Ben Simmons‘ doesn’t do well from the arc. Although Embiid is better, he is more reliable at the center instead of as a shooter.  So, taking in Seth could be really good for Philadelphia.

In an interview with Stephen Curry, he was asked, “Did any move over free agency or NBA trade season really surprise you?” Steph ended up talking about the incident when the two received Seth’s news about being traded to Philly.

“The one that was closest to home, I was sitting next to my brother [Seth Curry], on a little mini-vacation, and he was kind of on the phone. And he’s so quiet, we didn’t really know. He was kind of hinting and talking about the trades and stuff like that. And it’s kind of just out of the blue, because we were following the draft. He was sitting down at the table right next to me and he was like, “It’s happening.” I’m like, “Wait, what’d you say?” And he’s like, “I just got traded to Philly,” narrated Steph.

“And then the tweet came in, like maybe literally 45 seconds later. That was a surprising one. We know how fast stuff can happen in the league, especially around draft night. The rest of the league, in terms of all the different moves and stuff, it’s kind of a status quo in terms of some big names changing markets and whatnot. You follow the news; you get excited about some of the different looks, and understand what you’re facing coming into the new season.”

This trade was a surprise for everyone, but very beneficial for the Sixers. The three-point threat for Sixers is no joke. And if Seth fills in that void for them, the issues regarding Simmons and Embiid could be fixed drastically. And at least help them get a playoff spot next season.
