Ever since it was quite evident that the Lakers and the Clippers will take the top positions in the Western Conference, it was sure that they’ll lock horns at some point. It excited the fans with the idea of the LA-based franchises facing each other for the first time in post-season. But none of it ever happened.

The Clippers blew its 3-1 lead, and this put an end to the potential clash of the titans. The hype of their rivalry was not just because they share the same arena. It’s also because the players from both sides have maintained kept strong verbal games against one another. Remember the Kawhi Leonard commercial that appeared to be mocking LeBron James?

Danny Green drew his own conclusion

The 33-YO 6’6” vet appeared in an interview where he took a shot at the Clippers. He was of the belief that the trash-talking backfired against the team. The Deadshot exclaimed, “I think the basketball Gods will humble you if you don’t play the game the right way or do the right thing. I mean, a lot of people say speak things into existence, which is cool I like that.

“You shouldn’t be as cocky or because a lot of times it’s going to go the opposite way, you know. Someway somehow, you know, things ironically it’s gonna turn out the way opposite of you talking [expletive].”

This comment can be viewed as a response to all the talks that the Clippers could not walk. Danny himself suffered through a fair deal of criticism after every game where he failed to score enough points. He has always struggled to put on a good show, especially in the playoffs, where his three-point percentage would dramatically come down.

Lakers vs Clippers, a rivalry that goes beyond the court

Head-to-head, the Lakers are 150-74 ahead of the Clippers. But in the past 8 seasons, the Clippers have totally overtaken their opponents with a dominant 25-7 record. The two teams have drawn equal comparison in the last two seasons, and hence they always make for a great show.

Interestingly, Jared Dudley had earlier revealed that the Lakers were laughing when the Clippers lost game 7 against the Nuggets. Both Patrick Beverley and Paul George have repeatedly spoken things to get on the nerves of the Lakers.

However, Danny Green’s comments matter even more because he has won two of his three rings alongside Kawhi Leonard (Spurs and Raptors). Still, now that he is a champion with the Lakers, Kawhi would surely like to answer him with his game in the approaching season.
