Brooklyn Nets star Kevin Durant seemed to come out in defence of his teammate Kyrie Irving on social media.

After Irving’s comments against the league’s restart came out, there have been a few supporting him as well as a few against him. Former Boston Celtics center Kendrick Perkins recently came out slamming Irving for his comments.

“Kyrie Irving, right now you are the distraction. You’re distracting the whole situation,” Perkins said on ESPN’s Get Up!. “It’s crazy to me because you come out and do something separately, without talking to your (NBPA) president Chris Paul or consulting with Michele Roberts and go off and do something totally different and get a group of guys together and say, ‘Let’s sit out.’ It makes zero sense and I totally disagree with Kyrie Irving.”

To an Instagram post that showed Perkins’ comments against Kyrie, Durant commented saying: “Sell out.”

He later also retweeted a tweet that showed a video of Perkins shooting an air ball. Although there was no mention of Kyrie or his Perkins’ comments against him, the timing of Durant’s actions leaves a possibility that he was defending his teammate.

Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving at Brooklyn Nets

Durant and Irving became teammates only last year, but many believe it was Durant who insisted on signing Irving. When Brooklyn Nets were looking to strengthen their side, Durant, who was entering free agency, seemed to be a natural choice. Reports suggested that Durant wanted the Nets to sign Kyrie.

The addition of two star men drastically strengthened the side on paper, but they are yet to feature together in a game. While Durant was already known to be out for the season, Irving’s first season was plagued with injuries.

Coming from Boston Celtics, Irving seemed to have a great start to his Nets career, starting with a 50-point game. But a shoulder injury soon sidelined him and later ruled him out for the season.

In spite of the unavailability of their two star men, the Nets had a decent season and were looking good to finish in a playoff spot prior to the league’s suspension.
