Yesterday, the world witnessed a dream boxing match between two legendary fighters, 51-year-old Roy Jones Jr. and the 54-year-old Mike Tyson. Amidst all this hype, Jones paid a tribute to the late NBA legend Kobe Bryant. He rocked a pair of Laker purple and gold with the numbers ‘8’ and ’24’ on either gloves, a tribute to the late Kobe Bryant.

The bout between Tyson and Roy Jones continued for eight two-minute rounds and was concluded as a draw. In his post-fight interview, Jones Jr presented his gloves and said, “My contribution to Kobe Bryant. Yes sir (in his building). I had to give a tribute to Kobe because he was my latest greatest.”
Jones added, “Michael Jordan will always be my number one favorite, but Kobe and [Allen] Iverson are right next second and third, and LeBron [James].”
Roy Jones Jr.: A longtime fan of Kobe Bryant
Roy Jones Jr. has been a big fan of Kobe Bryant. In a 2014 video, Jones said that the ‘Black Mamba’ was his favorite player. He stated, “My favorite is Kobe man.”

Jones added, “Kobe, keep doing what you are doing, brother… People don’t deal with adversity like they should. People don’t give credit to go through adversity. Kobe went through a convicted rape trial… He didn’t do anything wrong. But the conviction made people look at him from a different angle. He still averaged what he was supposed to average, gave the team exactly what they need from him for the whole time that went on… When people say Kobe ain’t that good, that’s baloney.”
Kobe Bryant was probably one of the best players the NBA has ever seen. He was an inspiration on the court as well as off the court. The Black Mamba’s death shook the whole world, and he is a legend who was gone too soon but will never be forgotten.
