Now that the Portland Trail Blazers are out of the 2020 playoffs run, the Defensive Player of the Year has more time for himself. We all know Damian Lillard is one of those players who always voices his opinions openly. He gives back to people who critique him unreasonably and stands for what he feels is right. Another such incident took place surrounding Denver Nuggets’ Michael Porter Jr.
In a press conference post their LA Clippers loss, Porter was seen making comments about certain adjustments he wants the coach to make. These statements did not go down well with Damian, who instantly established his stance on Twitter. However, Damian’s point of view was also not received well by the audience.

As most people would agree, Michael Porter Jr. is an asset to the Nuggets. He is one of those bench players that the team can rely on and has shown the potential of dropping good numbers when needed. The Nuggets are currently up against the Clippers in the Western Conference Semi-Finals. However, we’ve noticed that coach Mike Malone has handed the ball to his key players Jamal Murray and Nikola Jokic on almost all occasions. This is something that has clearly affected Porter.
During the conference, he stated, “To beat that team, we’ve gotta get more players involved.” What he means is that he wants the coach to give him more opportunities than he has gotten on the court. While most would have considered this positive feedback, Damian responded to that excerpt of the interview and just wrote, “smdh” showing utmost disapproval of Porter’s comments.

What Lillard believes is that these conversations should be limited to the team and not be talked about publically. It ends up giving an impression of no unity within.
The twitter war with fans
Although this may have been from the best of intentions, fans disliked Lillard’s reaction and spoke up. One fan said, “I mean he isn’t technically wrong Dame, just not the right time or place to voice that opinion. Should be kept in house.”
Dame came across this comment and responded, “Yes he is wrong. If you know you know and ima leave it at that.”

This did not just end here. Another fan asked for an explanation for Dame’s reaction to the video. He asserted, “Dame you can’t just say smdh and not elaborate.”
Finally, what looked like Dame’s last shot at making things clear, he blatantly wrote, “Yes I can. Cuz clearly y’all mfs think on a selfish level to think this is coo .”

Just simple feedback turned into an elaborate controversy. Whether Porter decides to react or not to Dame’s reaction, is something we will have to wait for.
