It has always been seen that the NBA history books define every era more or less by its top 10 players. These big names take away a sizeable chunk of the limelight. However, they do it rightly so, because these are the rare breeds who revolutionize the era. One such revolutionary player is Stephen Curry of the Golden State Warriors.

There have been enough talks by sportswriters about how Steph Curry changed the rules of the game, but it is always great to gain a fresh perspective. What better than hearing from someone who has been there and done that against the legendary point guard?

Veteran NBA guard-forward revealed his experience against Steph

34-year-old Corey Brewer has played for nine different teams in his 12-year career in the NBA. In all these years, he has guarded the best of the talents from the likes of Giannis Antetokounmpo, and James Harden, to Damian Lillard, LeBron James, Carmelo Anthony, and others. In a write-up, he shared his experience of defending each of these players.

Brewer’s views on Steph stood out. He revealed, “Once he’s making threes, and the crowd is going crazy, we’ll try to double team him. But that’s where his passing comes in. Then, he’s getting everybody else involved. Like I said, he’s a nightmare when he’s making threes.”

The 6’9” player who presently plays for the Sacramento Kings added, “When I’m guarding him, it’s “please go shoot a layup.” That gives us a chance to win — because if Steph is shooting threes and making threes, it’s curtains. He changed the game with the way he can shoot the ball. That’s why all these guys are shooting off the pick-and-rolls, all these guys are shooting threes now. That makes him great.”

From these comments, one thing is certain; Corey vs Curry is one thing Brewer would rather not happen.

What makes the Warriors’ guard so lethal and impossible to defend?

When Warriors’ Steph Curry is coupled with other top shooters like Klay Thompson or Kevin Durant, it’s a different ball game where they play with their own set of rules. But discussing specifically Steph, he is such a lethal shooter that guards have to jump on him as soon as he crosses the half-court. No defensive side can leave him open because he has in him the capability to shoot from OuterSpace.

Curry’s playmaking is also strong, and double-teaming him would only leave other key players open. So one can either force Curry to move inside the paint or cross their fingers and hope he misses the three. That is why he is the two-time MVP who came out of injury early in his career, only to evolve as one of the game’s greatest shooters ever.
