The date for the 2020 NBA draft remains 18 November as of now. This year, the Minnesota Timberwolves landed the #1 overall pick, giving them a great chance to improve their roster.

The easiest way would be to go for a top prospect from the draft class. However, if the Wolves want, they can trade the pick for a win-now player as well. According to ESPN’s Brian Windhorst, the Wolves are interested in opting for the latter option.

“Minnesota has, from what I understand, made the pick very available.”

However, this revelation from Windhorst could be mere speculation, as nothing is official yet. The Wolves might change their minds in the coming days.

As of now, the Wolves need a good player at the forward position. But considering that most top draft prospects do not suffice for that role, it only makes sense for the Wolves to trade their pick.

Now the question remains: which teams can benefit the most from this no.1 pick? Let’s have a look at the possible trade scenarios for the pick that the Timberwolves own.

Who should the Minnesota Timberwolves approach with the #1 overall pick?

Considering the current roster for the Wolves, they already have two All-Star caliber players. D’Angelo Russell and Karl-Anthony Towns might be just one piece away from leading their team to a playoff berth.

1. Orlando Magic

To fill the void, the most logical decision is to trade for a forward. For starters, they can approach the Orlando Magic for Aaron Gordon. Pairing Gordon with KAT and D’lo can work wonders for the Wolves.

In the 2019-20 season, Gordon averaged 14.4 points and 7.7 rebounds in the 62 games he played for the Magic. These contributions will help the Wolves to be aggressive on both ends of the court.

2. New Orleans Pelicans

The Pelicans have one of the league’s most premier defenders in Jrue Holiday. The 30-year-old can become the defensive pillar for the Wolves in the upcoming season. Also, considering Towns and Russell are not defensive liabilities, the Wolves need someone like Holiday.

3. Atlanta Hawks

Lastly, the Minnesota Timberwolves can get a solid power forward in John Collins from the Hawks. Collins can even play as a center if the Wolves need to rest up Towns in some games. All things considered, this could be a phenomenal move for the T-Wolves.

What do you think? Will the Minnesota Timberwolves trade their #1 pick away or will they draft a top prospect in the 2020 NBA Draft?
