The Los Angeles Lakers will not have it easy in this off-season. They might have to make some tough decisions and allow a few of their champions to move out. Kyle Kuzma is one such player who can go either way. But the latest development signals towards him staying put.

The Lakers were conservative in their approach towards the 2019 off-season. They strategically gave most of their free agents a single-year deal with player options. But, just in case the teams have to exercise on a frozen cap from last season, the Lakers’ strategy might not help. So what is in it for the 25-YO Kuzma?

As per an NBA insider, Kuzma fans can hope that he is not going anywhere. Brian Windhorst recently expressed in an interview, “Then you got Kuzma, who is extension eligible, still has a year left on his contract but is extension eligible.” He further added, “And from what I understand, [he] is expecting a sizable deal, hoping for a sizable deal.”

The situation with Kuzma was tricky, even in last year’s off-season. The rumors were strong that he will be traded, but that did not happen. This coming year, however, will be his last year as per the rookie contract. Now, the Lakers might not want to risk him entering the free agency.

What will make it harder for them to keep Kyle Kuzma for another year?

The Kriss Kross had two really good seasons with the Lakers where he averaged 16.1 and 18.7 points respectively. When the Lakers gave up Lonzo Ball, Brandon Ingram, and Josh Hart for Anthony Davis, they did not let Kuzma go away. However, with the arrival of AD, Kuzma took the backseat and his numbers took the hammering.

Now, the Lakers desperately need a bigger guard who can assure a great defense when AD and LeBron James are in the offense. It seems more likely than ever that they can let go Kyle to receive either Chris Paul, Derrick Rose, Dennis Schroder, or Spencer Dinwiddie.

In case the Lakers decide to extend Kuzma’s rookie contract, they must then allow the young man to be in the starting line-up. Do you think the Lakers will be willing to do that? Help us know your views in the comment section.
