In the 2020-21 season, the Golden State Warriors will look forward to making a comeback. With the Stephen Curry-core aging, they need to make some win-now decisions to compete.

One such decision could be to target a good defensive player. Pelicans guard Jrue Holiday could be the answer to that for the Warriors, as the 30-year-old has been a major part of the trade rumors for quite some time now.

NBA insider Shams Charania recently dropped the news that the Pelicans are open to hearing about trade offers for Jrue. So this is probably the best time to approach them if the Warriors do want him.

But do they have the assets for it? Well, the Warriors have a $17.2 million trade exception, which they can use to sign a player in this range and get the talks started. Furthermore, the Dubs have the second overall pick in the 2020 NBA Draft.

Attaching that in a trade would definitely spike interest from New Orleans’ side. The Pelicans are still rebuilding after drafting Zion Williamson last season. Along with Zion, both Ingram and Ball are part of that experiment.

If the Pelicans get the #2 pick in this draft, they can pair their current young core with another up-and-coming prospect. On the other hand, for the Warriors, they need a win-now player and Holiday will serve that purpose.

Honestly, the front office of the Warriors are known for making smart decisions. Right now, with the current situation, getting an excellent defensive guard will benefit them. Furthermore, they already have Draymond Green as a defensive anchor for them, adding Holiday to the mix that might seal the deal.

Moreover, they already have their core of Steph, Klay, and Green intact. They added Andrew Wiggins to that in the 2019-20 season. Maybe Jrue Holiday is the final piece of the puzzle?

As of now, there is no official word on it. In the end, the Dubs might stick to drafting a wing player in the draft. We will have a clearer picture of the scenario in the coming weeks for sure.
