The Dallas Mavericks last won their one and the only NBA title in 2011. In the past twenty years, they’ve reached the playoffs 16 times, but lifted the title just once. Hence, team owner Mark Cuban has an eccentric idea to change their fate in the approaching season.
The franchise knows that they’ve got a significant chance to make it big with the European duo. Both Luka Doncic and Kristaps Porzingis have shown great caliber in this past season. It will be the cherry on the cake if the Mavs can add one more solid name to turn it into a killer trio. Well, at least the ambitions of the organization seem aligned with this aim.

The Dallas Mavericks are desperate for a higher draft pick
According to a recent report, the Mavs are ready to trade anyone and everyone from their roster to back their star duo. They are in no mood to make either Luka or Kristaps available, but they are keen on trading any other name in order to attain a lottery pick.
Currently, the franchise has #18 and #31 overall picks. But this is far from satisfactory for a team that genuinely needs a third option. Their bench woes got exposed during their playoff series against the LA Clippers. Kristaps Porzingis injured himself in game 1 of the series. Later, the Mavs remained mostly dependent on Luka and eventually gave away the series 2-4 to the Clippers.
This signaled the organization that they need to anyhow get another big name to their roster. Luka averaged 28.8 points, 9.4 rebs, and 8.8 assists last season, while Kristaps added 20.4 points and 9.5 rebounds at 35.2% from downtown.

What all can the Mavs do in the off-season?
They can get Dennis Schroder from the OKC, who has only one year left on his contract. He was in the Sixth Man of the Year conversation and can prove to be a good asset. The Mavs can trade Jalen Brunson, Delon Wright, and Justin Jackson to acquire his services. They will also have options to sign players like Luke Kennard if they wish to keep their cap intact to attract Giannis Antetokounmpo in the 2021 offseason.

A higher draft pick will give them the option to acquire a dependable rookie name, but if they are to hit it big this year, they might have to give away players like Maxi Kleber and Dorian Finney-Smith.
One thing is sure, the Mavs will look like a whole new team when they come out with a changed roster in the coming season.
