Chicago Bulls player Zach LaVine is one of the better shooting guards in the league. The fringe all-star has shown reliable shooting with explosive dunks during his years in the league. He is currently spearheading a directionless Bulls team, which is halfway towards a rebuild. He is 25 years old and showing steady improvement.

LaVine averaged 25.5 points this season, a career-high. However, these are empty stats, considering the Bulls struggles all season. They have been exposed defensively, with evident dissatisfaction between the players and coach Jim Boylen.

Ian Begley has reported that the Chicago Bulls are looking for trade offers for Zach LaVine. LaVine would make any contending team dangerous instantly. He is also young enough to be in a better rebuilding situation elsewhere, as the Bulls seem to have arrived at a crossroads for their young core. The front office changes that the Bulls have had would indicate towards a full rebuild, after years of failing to become a threat in the Eastern Conference again.

Begley suggests that the two New York teams are the ones with their hats in the ring. The Nets have been looking for a third star next to Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving. The Knicks are still looking to find the right moment to build their new lineup, with most players on single-year deals.

Chicago Bulls and their decision

The Bulls have no immediate compulsion to trade LaVine, but he might not be best suited for a long rebuild. Other stars like Coby White and Lauri Markkanen are younger than him, so the Bulls could look to reposition themselves around those two. LaVine could fetch some great assets to build that team up, but it means that Chicago will have to wait a little longer for playoff basketball.

The Nets would become instant title contenders with LaVine. He can play off-ball really well and is a great shooter. His numbers are bound to be affected with two high volume scorers next to him, so it’ll be a test to see if he can fit in.

The Knicks, on the other hand, are looking to add pieces to make themselves an attractive free-agent destination in 2021. They themselves are in rebuild mode, and LaVine would be a great addition next to the more offensively limited guard in R.J. Barrett. However, his lack of defensive skills will be a challenge for whatever team he is on.

LaVine could be an all-star someday. He has persevered despite his early injuries and is one of the best scorers in the league. The Bulls are parting ways with a potential star in LaVine.
