The league recently announced the 2019/20 NBA All-Defensive teams. Though both sides have solid talents, a few deserving players missed the cut this year, and people aren’t happy with it. One player snubbed from the All-Defensive team this year is Pelicans guard Jrue Holiday.
As always, journalists on twitter revealed the vote counts for the NBA’s All-Defensive first and second teams. Amongst the guards who didn’t make the cut for either team, Holiday isn’t even in the top two! With this snub, he misses out on making his third straight appearance in an NBA All-Defensive team (2018 & 2019).
The breakdown of voting for the NBA’s All Defensive Team. Two things standout to me:
1. Kawhi Leonard on the second team is wild.
2. No Sacramento Kings player received a vote. pic.twitter.com/5y3EkxSdnP

It is hard to accept the fact that Jrue Holiday has received only fourteen second-place votes. He’s been incredible on the defensive end this season, and his game awareness has been a major boost for the Pelicans.
Holiday in fact ranks 11th in the list of steals made per game. His record of .8 BPG is also impressive, a stat he’s been consistently putting up for the past three years. Most importantly, the 30-year-old has proved to be a major contributor in protecting his team’s basket with some wonderful displays of defense.
NBA Stars Dame Lillard and JJ Redick unhappy with Jrue Holiday being snubbed of NBA All-Defensive team
Following the release of the defensive team voting, few were pleased with the results. Furthermore, the scarce amount of votes Holiday got did not sit well with a few. A lot of NBA players respect Jrue for his game, and Andre Iguodala is one among them.
.@Andre Iguodala on Jrue Holiday:
"I've seen this guy guard Steph better than anybody. I've seen him guard Durant for 40 minutes. He should have been DPOY 2-3 times, First-Team D every year. He'll never get that household name credit."How y'all pick Bledsoe? https://t.co/1GxOcqx5kB pic.twitter.com/nHwTpowAPI

Looking at the votes Holiday got made his teammate JJ Redick express his frustration on Twitter. “When it’s nearly unanimous amongst your peers that you are the best defensive guard in the league and you don’t make either All-Defense team…that’s a snub.” Redick wrote.

JJ Redick’s post was met with solidarity by Blazers’ Damian Lillard, who put forth his view. “Beyond a snub,” Lillard said, advocating that Holiday deserved a place in any one of the defensive teams.

Well, the voters who had the chance to pick the candidates didn’t feel like going for Jrue Holiday. While the reasons remain disclosed, the protests aren’t. Jrue’s colleagues are vocal about his snub, and we only believe more athletes will come out and voice their support for the Pelicans guard.
