The Denver Nuggets fell to a 98-86 loss to the LA Clippers, which puts them down 3 games to 1 in the playoffs. NBA Analyst Shannon Sharpe believes that the Nuggets need to distribute the ball better and especially get Michael Porter Jr. involved.
“Michael Porter Jr. touched on it. He is the guy that is the third scoring option and he had it going in the first half. Then he comes out and gets only two shots in the second half… You’re not going to beat them with two guys. Doc Rivers and his coaching staff are two good, you need to get a third scoring option. I thought last night Michael Porter Jr. was playing really really well. He is going to have to be a viable scoring option”
He further elaborated his point on ball movement. “Give the Clippers credit. They won the ball game, but I don’t know if they (Denver) thought that the way they got it done against Utah will work against the Clippers, because it won’t. You have to move the ball and trust others. Gary Harris was in foul trouble, Jerami Grant didn’t give them anything, Paul Millsap didn’t give them anything, and I don’t know with two guys if you can beat the Clippers.”

Should the Lakers be concerned about the Clippers after taking their 3-1 lead over the Nuggets?
"No, I think the Nuggets can't seem to find a rhythm for extended stretches. Doc & that staff is too good. You're not going to beat them with 2 scoring options."

Michael Porter Jr. was supposed to be a high-risk high-reward selection in the 2018 Draft. He was clearly the most talented, but his fragility posed serious questions. The Nuggets took a swing on him, and it’s paying off this year. Porter Jr. has shown that he is a gifted scorer, but still has work to do on the defense.

Evidently, Mike Malone has been treating MPJ with gloves, so as to not have him reinjured his back. However, now is the time to let the young man be unleashed. Kawhi Leonard and Paul George are the only two players that can guard him. He’s playing at a high level will further allow Murray and Jokic, two of the better passers in the playoffs, to find more open opportunities.
The Jokic-Murray duo is failing in this playoffs, especially Murray. Maybe Denver just needs a little MPJ action to change their fortunes around.
