Russell attended Central High-School as a freshman and later transferred to Montverde Academy in Florida. He was rated a five-star recruit and also starred in the McDonald’s All-American Game and the Jordan Brand Classic as a senior.

Russell averaged 23.6 points in his short Golden State stint and notched up a career-high 52.0 while playing for the Bay Team.
