After the former owner of the Los Angeles Lakers Jerry Buss passed away in 2013, his daughter, Jeanie Buss, took over. But sadly for her, the Lakers have not had much success since then. During a recent interview, Lakers legend Magic Johnson said that he was rooting for Buss to see similar success like her father.
During the interview with Jim Hill, Johnson was all praise for Jeanie. He said, “Jeanie Buss, our ultimate leader. You have to give her a lot of credit. She was put in a tough situation, especially when I left. And then had to make a tough decision on Coach Walton, and she made that decision.”

Then he spoke about her desire to win a title, which has eluded her so far. “She’s really stepped up and for the fans, she wants to win a championship. And I want to see her be this woman standing on stage, receiving the NBA championship trophy (as) her father did. That would be awesome.”
Will the Los Angeles Lakers finally be able to end their title drought?
The Lakers have been under the Buss family for over four decades now. Jerry Buss had bought the team in 1979 and saw them win 10 rings during his tenure. The Lakers haven’t won a ring since 2010, but with LeBron James and Anthony Davis on the team, it looks possible now.

LeBron arrived in Los Angeles two years ago, in one of the biggest moves of the 2018 Off-Season. His arrival made the Lakers contenders immediately, but that didn’t go according to plan. After suffering injuries, LeBron played under 60 games for the first time in his career. He couldn’t guide his young team to the playoffs, as they finished with a 37-45 record. It was the first time since 2005, that LeBron was missing from the NBA playoffs.

Then, in the 2019 Off-Season, the Lakers switched it up. They traded their young core to bring in the defensive powerhouse, Anthony Davis. With him and LeBron, the Lakers have returned to their winning ways. Currently, they are the first seed in the West, heading to Orlando. They need to just win three more out of the eight games to seal their status as the top seed in the Western Conference. The Lakers finally seem to have a real shot at bringing home the Larry O’Brien championship trophy after a decade.
