Kyrie Irving has been a talking point for the media over the last few days, but it is not for good reasons. Irving made some controversial comments about the media and referred to them as ‘Pawns’.

As expected, the 2016 NBA champion received a lot of backlash for his comments. Although Kyrie did explain his comments, the damage was already done.

Skip Bayless on Kyrie Irving boycotting the media

Many NBA analysts took turns in replying to Irving, and this time it was the Undisputed’s Skip Bayless who took a dig at the Nets star.

He [Kyrie Irving] has always had high intellect, he is always been a deep thinker. But there are times you can think yourself into oblivion. And it feels like he is heading in that direction, he needs to be reeled back in.”

Bayless further explained what Irving’s responsibilities are to the game that is his bread and butter. “He has lost all touch with who he is and what he represents and what his responsibility is to the game that pays him…

“He has a commitment to help promote the game instead of biting the hand that feeds him… Now, here is the irony of this whole circumstance… It’s actually better for the team if he doesn’t speak to the media because he always puts sneaker in mouth.”

Over the last few seasons, Irving has somewhat developed a reputation of being a locker room cancer. He forced his way out of Cleveland to lead his own team, which he got in Boston.

But after just two years with the Celtics, he left the organization after making a commitment to stay long term. Even last season with the Nets, Irving threw his teammates under the bus on several occasions.

How does Kyrie Irving’s comments about the media impact the Nets?

Kyrie’s decision to not answer the media could be a blessing in disguise for the team. If he doesn’t make any controversial statements about his teammates, the team can focus on their goal to bring Brooklyn an NBA Championship.

Additionally, the Nets have Kevin Durant, who can handle the media in the absence of Kyrie. So considering everything, if Kyrie stays strong with his decision to avoid the media, it can help the Nets tremendously.
