Kevin Durant received his MVP recognition in 2014. In his speech, he ensured that he acknowledged his mother’s sacrifices. Similarly, other NBA stars like James Harden, DeAndre Jordan, Kawhi Leonard, and LeBron James have time and again shown love and respect for their mothers.

LeBron James and his mother have seen tough times

Gloria Marie James gave birth to the Akron Hammer when she was merely 16 years old. LeBron’s father was nowhere in the sight, leaving his mother to raise him all alone. Moreover, Gloria lost her mother when she was 19 and then, all she had was a toddler LeBron, whom she had to raise on a tight budget. It was not an easy childhood from any scale of measure.

That’s why LeBron sounds very choked when he says, “The only thing that I missed during the COVID and the quarantine here was my mother. Umm, it’s the first time umm, in my life that I went that long without seeing my mom. I hadn’t seen my mom since all-star weekend and then I saw her uh, two weeks or three weeks before we had to report to our respective cities.”

Now he is a world-renowned professional, and his focus unquestionably remains getting his side the required number of wins. The same goes true for any other player out there in the Bubble. Still, when questioned about his core feelings, this is how he honestly responds.

His highly competitive self keeps him motivated

So LeBron must have a very positive mindset to lift that fourth championship for himself and his mother. He said, “You know I would go outside and play the game of Basketball with my boys all the time so I get my little fix from that we would go off I would go downstairs play the video game, play Basketball so you know that was fun.”

It would have been an emotional boost for players to have their parents by the court. But these are the staunch sacrifices that truly make them champions.
