There is a dichotomy around being a favorite. The loyalty of most fans remains directly proportional to the latest W/L. The Lakers fans are no different. The case of Danny Green proved this right. People heavily criticized him during the playoffs, with some even sending death threats his way. Now, the 33-YO has finally responded to all the hate.

It all turned nasty when the star guard failed to convert a crucial three-pointer in game 5. LeBron James trusted him with a clutch three, but Danny choked. This forced a Game 6 scare on the Lakers and the fans could not digest it. As an unfortunate impulsive reaction, not just Danny, even his wife received death threats.

Lakers’ guard has finally broken his silence on the serious matter

In a recent interview, the three-time NBA Champion spoke his heart out. He began by accepting that such scrutiny comes with playing for a team as big as the Lakers.

“When you’re the only sport playing at one point and everything is focused on you guys and basketball, everything is more magnified. So it’s tough, man. It’s a tough situation. It was tough times, and it wasn’t easy being in that area, being in the scenario.

“But now we’ve gotten used to it and adapted to it a little bit so if it happens again, obviously, we know how to operate in it. But hopefully it doesn’t happen again.”

He said he has gotten used to it for a reason. Back in 2013, when Danny was arguably in his prime, his Spurs lost a 3-2 lead to eventually lose the NBA title. In Game 6, they were 5 points ahead of LeBron James’ Miami Heat with seconds remaining. But they lost it all and handed over the victory. This loss came with a lot of hate on to the Spurs, and hence Danny knew how it tasted.

The Deadshot first honestly shared how it felt in the first place. He noted, “It’s a lot of stuff that I don’t take seriously. It wasn’t the first time I’ve gotten threats or criticism. I’ve got threats before and cussing in every city I’ve played in so it’s part of the game it comes with it, it comes with the territory.”

After giving this gruesome picture, the well-known three-pointer shooter with a decent 40% career 3P% shared his solution. He expressed, “just take it for what it is, block out the noise, block the accounts of fake people trying to message you whatever ignore everything else trying to stay off social media.

“Try to stay off of sports channels, basketball talk, and try to escape as best as you can while you’re in there and stay fresh so that when you do play the game, you’re not burnt out.”

Danny’s shooting from downtown has suffered lately. But he still has it in him to pick up. He is still there to stay with the Lakers, perhaps as their starting five. Although, it is not sure whether he will join the next season, if in case, it kicks off on December 22.
