With the second round of the playoff series just a couple of days away, the Los Angeles Lakers might see the return of one of its key veteran players. Coach Frank Vogel and the entire team were anticipating Rajon Rondo to make a comeback after recovering from his thumb injury in round one itself. However, despite being medically approved to play, he started suffering from some back spasms and never made his playoff debut.

Now, Vogel has made a statement about their much-needed point guards return. Let’s find out what he has to say.

The Lakers’ journey went on very smoothly against the Portland Trail Blazers in round one. Except for one bump in the road, when they lost the first round, they were unstoppable. They crossed the finish line with a 4-1 victory and are entering round two against the dangerous Houston Rockets. With so many teams plagued with injuries, the Lakers have had a healthy roster so far. Except for their point guard, Rajon Rondo, who was missing because of a thumb injury initially and then back problems.

Nevertheless, looks like the worst for Rondo is over, and is set to return to the court in game 1 of round 2. In an interview with Vogel, he is asked, “What’s the update on Rondo, and will he play on Friday?”

Frank responded. “Rondo has practiced both times this week. Looks really good. We’re gonna continue to see how he’s feeling after this work, but we’re hopeful to have him in uniform and in the rotation on Friday.”

This is ecstatic news for the Lakers at this crucial point in the playoffs. They will need all the backing they can get from their best players.

What does his return mean for the rest of the lineup?

Rondo’s return has definitely stirred up some questions about how it will affect the rotation. Well, it seems like the only player that will be impacted is Alex Caruso. He is the one who took over as point guard in Rondo’s absence.

Despite that, the Lakers will be glad to have him back. Rando will be able to take the load off LeBron James and Anthony Davis drastically. It is always fruitful when LeBron gets some rest in between. Let’s see what Rondo brings to the plate when they play Rockets on Friday.
