Fred VanVleet has one of the most heartwarming stories in the NBA. VanVleet was never considered a top-of-the-bill recruit in his basketball career. After being a 3-star high school recruit, VanVleet spent a full 4 years playing college basketball.

He then went undrafted in the 2016 NBA Draft. However, the Toronto Raptors signed him for their Summer League roster, and he went on to make the cut for the main team.

FVV has exploded ever since. By his second season, VanVleet was in the running for the Sixth Man of the Year, backing up Kyle Lowry as the Raptors point guard.

He would go on to play a pivotal role in the Raptors 2018-19 season, which ended with a championship. After his development continued last season, VanVleet has become one of the best available free agents.

FVV has expressed a desire to financially secure himself, even if it means leaving the Raptors. NBA Champion Jared Dudley has commented on Freddie’s free agency situation and urged teams to give him a max contract.

VanVleet has a lot of tantalizing options ahead of him. However, returning home is sometimes the best option. Toronto have bird rights on FVV and can offer him more money than any other team.

After how day one of free agency played out, there is a chance that the pool of teams FVV can get paid by has shrunk.

Teams like the Detroit Pistons and the Atlanta Hawks have already started using up their cap space. While they have room for more, it wouldn’t make sense for them to stock up on a massive VanVleet contract. Even though the Pistons could use another guard.

The New York Knicks are still an option, as they will be looking to add a guard to their forward heavy lineup. They have the money and the need for a point guard like VanVleet, who may even be a culture setter in that locker room.
