The power of media contributes a lot to the world of sports. The internet is a great medium for making your thoughts known to the world. As the NBA is still under suspension, players come online to voice their opinions about certain topics. A recent one saw Spencer Dinwiddie claiming Kevin Durant is a better player than former Maverick Dirk Nowitzki.
Dinwiddie signed with the Brooklyn Nets in 2016 and has been a role player for them ever since. KD entered the Nets family when he left Golden State Warriors after a troubled stint with the Bay team. Though he has not played a single game for Brooklyn yet, Durant has already gained the massive support of his teammates.
“At 80 percent, he’s Dirk Nowitzki. At 100 percent, he’s the best scorer of all time.” This was the comment made by Spencer Dinwiddie on ESPN’s First Take. He is so confident in Durant’s abilities that he compared a flawed version of him to be better than Dirk Nowitzki. However, when you make such comments, you better get ready for the counter replies that will come flying. The 27-year-old Dinwiddie attracted a response from Shannon Sharpe for his remarks undermining Nowitzki’s talents.

Shannon Sharpe claims Kevin Durant is nowhere near Dirk Nowitzki
Sharpe, a former three-time Super Bowl champion, co-hosts a program on Fox Sports along with Skip Bayless. In a recent episode of their show Undisputed, Shannon Sharpe blasted Spencer Dinwiddie for his baseless comments against Dirk Nowitzki. According to him, “KD is no Dirk.”
Sharpe swiftly delved into KD’s scoring abilities and placed him way behind in the list of prolific scorers in the NBA. “When healthy, KD hasn’t averaged 35 points, Sharpe said. Is he a better scorer than MJ, Kobe, or what we’ve seen from Harden over the last 5 years? No! And to say KD is at 80% better than Dirk is false.”

Though Sharpe might feel Kevin Durant is nowhere near the league of the former NBA champion Nowitzki, questioning KD’s shooting abilities is never an argument. Durant is one of the better players in the league and his averages speak for themselves. His career-high came in 2014 when he averaged 32.0 points per game for the Oklahoma City Thunder. Though he has not touched the 35 point average, his scoring abilities can never be doubted.
On the other hand, Dirk is the greatest European to play in the NBA. His 21-year stint with the Dallas Mavericks made him an all-time legend and a future Hall of Famer. Comparing these two players might never make sense, but appreciating them for their contributions always will.
