The Utah Jazz have definitely found their franchise player in Donovan Mitchell. He proved flashes of his true potential in the first round of the 2020 postseason. Unfortunately, it was not enough for his team to make it to the next round.

The Jazz became the first victim of the Nuggets’ in their dream playoff run as the Jazz blew a 3-1 lead. But that meltdown has done nothing but motivate the 24-year-old as he revealed his future goals in a recent interview and said, “We need to hold ourselves to a high standard. You know, we blew a 3-1 lead. We lost in the first round, and there’s no time for that. There’s no time for slow starts.

Mitchell himself is playing on an elite level, but he can’t pull the team all by himself. The Utah Jazz as a whole need to come back even stronger if they want to lift the glorious NBA Championship trophy. Mitchell said:

“You can’t be complacent when we’re up and we have to start focusing more on the details. There’s no day where we can kind of have that lapse. … There’s no easing our way into this. We need to come out ready to go because losing in the first round ain’t it no more.”

The road to the NBA Finals will be even more difficult this season, with the competition at an all-time high in the league. There are a plethora of teams in both the Western and Eastern Conference that have a shot to win it all. But can the Jazz overcome all these adversities?

The Jazz might be a few seasons away from becoming NBA champions. They are definitely a contender even in the stacked Western Conference, but they might a piece or two away from dominating their conference.

Two-time DPOY winner and Jazz center Rudy Gobert seems to share this exact thought. He said, “We know that we’re going to have a window that’s going to be this year and in the next few years, and we have to take advantage of that window. And I really feel like we’re going to have a chance to win it out if we keep going in the right direction and keep improving.”

The future looks bright for the team and some day, this franchise will be capable of bringing some hardware to the city of Utah. It might be this season or after a few seasons, but they are definitely heading in the right direction.
