Dallas Mavericks fans went berserk when the team traded in Luka Doncic after the 2018 NBA draft. The Mavs’ smoothly received Doncic from the Atlanta Hawks, who initially selected him as the third overall pick. Luka had immense hype surrounding him upon his arrival to the NBA. The reason being his impressive resume, playing professional basketball for three years in Spain. 

The Mavericks stand seventh in the Western Conference table and would look to qualify for the playoffs when they travel to Orlando. Mark Cuban’s team is powered by three big foreign players going by the names of Luka Doncic, Boban Marjanovic, and Kristaps Porzingis. These three exciting players tower their way over any defender to effortlessly score points for the Mavs.

The 2018 Rookie of the Year was having a breakthrough season until the league suspended all its activities. The 21-year-old has an average of 28.7 points per game in the 54 fixtures that he played in. Luka also leads the league in most triple-doubles with 14 to his name. 

Luka Doncic thinks it is going to be weird to continue the season without fans

Of course, fans play a big part in any sport. A home team is considered to have an advantage based on the fact that they have thousands of fans to cheer them throughout the game. But for the foreseeable future, the NBA will be hosting games without any fans in the arena. 

Due to the overwhelming impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, the league is forced to take such a severe decision on continuing the season without any fans. Well, Luka Doncic thinks it is absolutely going to be the worst time playing without fans.

In a zoom call with over 60 media members present, Doncic informed them about his take on playing without fans. “Honestly, I don’t know because I’ve never experienced this thing. It’s going to be worst, for sure,” Doncic said, as per mavs.com’s Dwain Price. “I enjoy very much the fans in the gym. As our opponents are playing at our home, there’s always noise.”

Luka and the Mavs have a challenging schedule as they take on the Houston Rockets in their opener. The Dallas based team has a decent chance of making a deep playoff run, given the explosive talent that they boast. But, everything would feel incomplete without loyal fans backing their team to win.

“It’s going to be weird, so I don’t know how I’m going to feel,” Doncic said. “Obviously it’s going to feel really weird without the fans, but I‘ll just do the same routine, same as always,” Doncic expressed.

However, the show must go on and the NBA is going to return without fans. The restart will certainly be exciting and we are all eagerly waiting to see how it all unfolds.
