After what seemed like the end of the Philadelphia 76ers, after another disappointing run last season, they can now see another ray of hope. The Sixers are making sure they fix every problem within the franchise. This includes changes in the coaching staff and in the front office. To begin with, Doc Rivers signed with them as their head coach, and now Daryl Morey is their President of Basketball Operations.
The Sixers have reportedly been waiting to bring Daryl on board for the past two years. And they finally got a chance to obtain him this offseason. Morey just left the Houston Rockets after a long tenure as their GM. Although the statistics prove that the Rockets achieved a 61.5% record and became one of the most successful teams in the league under him, they couldn’t win a Western Conference Finals.

Bringing in Daryl has come with a heavy price. Not metaphorically, but literally. According to Marc Stein of the Ney York Times, “Morey and the Philadelphia 76ers agreed to a five-year deal last week estimated to be worth more than $10 million per season, according to industry insiders.” This means that his contract is worth around $50 million.
This lucrative contract has crossed the one Doc Rivers signed. Rivers agreed to a five-year contract with the Sixers and got approximately the same salary per year as he did with the Clippers, which is $8 million. But that’s not what matters. What matters is that putting these two greats together, along with a young talented core, could be a recipe for success for the Sixers.
Will the Philadelphia 76ers’ star duo benefit from these new additions?

Joel Embiid and Ben Simmons have chemistry issues on the court that need immediate fixing. Individually, Simmons has lacked shooting from the arc throughout his career. Since he is coming from the Rockets, Morey’s way of playing is by dropping three’s, which could be a huge drawback for Simmons.

Joel Embiid is often referred to as a future MVP candidate. If his health stays intact, he is an all-rounder that has the potential to bring a title to the Sixers. Consistency is the key for these two. If Rivers and Daryl Morey can achieve that, they might help the Sixers write a brighter page for their legacy.
