The Charlotte Hornets were once again on the losing end against the Toronto Raptors in their second preseason game. However, on the bright side, their newly acquired rookie finally made his scoring debut in double digits by bagging 12 points. This was a relief after he finished with zero points in their preseason opener. Contrary to popular belief, a former Hornets player, Baron Davis, still has faith in LaMelo Ball.
In his debut, LaMelo’s statistics were quite uneven. He had 4 assists and 10 rebounds but also had four turnovers and zero points in his 16 minutes of playing time. In the second game, he got to clock in 20 mins, so his production was better than last time.
The young rookie has a lot of high expectations, being one of the top prospects in the 2020 NBA Draft. The Hornets had a franchise superstar missing from their roster. Kemba Walker took a shot at it but failed because of the terribly constructed roster around him. But now the Hornets have a young core.

LaMelo may have to improve his game remarkably when it comes to scoring, but his passing is as good as expected. Despite LaMelo needing a lot of work, why does Baron Davis feel like LaMelo is a superstar?
Will LaMelo Ball struggle with the Hornets?
Many people believe that Ball will have a tough time fitting in, but Baron Davis said, “Everybody struggles, man. LaMelo Ball is a superstar. Yeah, I am going to say it now; you can see it. He’s going to have to grow. He’s not even filled into his body, dog. I judge people on the way they think, their instincts, and the plays that they make. And when you look at someone who is like that, the game is easy to him no matter who’s on the court… LaMelo is just ultra talent. He’s infectious.”
It was definitely good to see LaMelo’s name on the scoreboard for the first time in his career. Let’s hope that it is only uphill from here and he proves everyone who doubts him, wrong.
