The LA Clippers not making it till the conference finals came as a big disappointment since they were the best team on paper. Following the exit, the Clips ended their long-term marriage with Head Coach Doc Rivers, and assistant coach Tyronn Lue has now humbly stepped into his shoes.
Lue replaces Doc Rivers, who held the position for seven years as the Head Coach of the Clippers. Rivers amassed an impressive 63.1 winning percentage but was let go after the team failed to advance past the second round in the 2020 NBA Playoffs.
Tyronn Lue has taken over the job after serving as the assistant coach under Rivers. Lue becomes the 26th coach of the franchise after the Clippers’ President of Basketball Operations officially announced the news on Tuesday.

“We have work to do, to become champions, but we have the motivation, the tools and the support to get there. I’m excited to get started,” Lue said after being promoted as the Head Coach.
Lue certainly has a great roster to start with. Moreover, he has prior coaching experience. He took over the Cleveland Cavaliers in 2016 and became just the fourth head coach since 1980 to win a championship in his first year.
Tyronn Lue certainly has the capacity to lead the Clippers to an NBA title. He’s done it with Cleveland, and similarly, he has superstars who can help him achieve it at LA. The upcoming season is exciting, and Lue has been humble about taking the job. He wants to prove his worth with results.
LA Clippers and their 2020 playoff despair
During the 2019 offseason, there was nobody more excited than LA Clippers fans. How could they not be? Their team has a long-standing history in the league, but they have never reached the conference finals even once.
Kawhi Leonard and Paul George were brought into the team to change fortunes, but their rookie year as a Clipper was utterly depressing. At the helm of this team was Doc Rivers, who looked massively confident of securing a title in 2020.

Everything looked bright for the Clippers, and their faithful fans were certain that the team would deliver this year. However, things took a turn for the worse when they had to play Game 7 against the Denver Nuggets.
Kawhi and PG combined to contribute only 24.0 points in the game when it should have been way more. Their campaign took a massive slide when these two were held from scoring in the decider.
