Los Angeles Lakers coach Frank Vogel believes his team will accomplish a harder-than-usual task if they win the championship this year.
There are a few who believe that the winner of the 2019/20 NBA season will have an asterisk against their name. However, Vogel it will be a “harder than ordinary” asterisk if the Lakers win the league.
“Our team’s been through a lot this year, we’ve endured, we’ve come out strong each time we’ve faced adversity, and if we’re able — I don’t know about other teams — but if we’re able to come through all of this and achieve the ultimate prize, I do think it deserves a ‘harder than ordinary’ asterisk if you’re going to put an asterisk on it,” Vogel said a video conference call recently (via Sports Illustrated).

The Lakers are among the favorites to win the league this year. After a few years of absence from the playoffs, the Lakers boast of a strong side this season with the duo of LeBron James and Anthony Davis leading the team. Prior to the league’s suspension, the Lakers were on top of the Western Conference with 49 wins. They had the best record in the league after Milwaukee Bucks.
Things might not be the same for all the teams after coming back after an unexpected break. But Vogel believed his team was capable of overcoming all obstacles to win the league.
“What I’ve learned about this group is that they’re committed, they like each other, they like the system that we’re playing in,” Vogel said. “And all of those signs of character that we have with this group, the work ethic we have with this group, all of those things lead me to believe that we’re going to get the job done.”

The Lakers restart the proceedings in the NBA with a game against Los Angeles Clippers. It was the fixture that kick-started the NBA season in October. When the Lakers get into the seeding games, they have a five-game advantage over the second-placed Clippers. They can afford to experiment a little and still finish on top of the Western Conference.
