Former Golden State Warriors star Kevin Durant faced flak when he decided to leave the franchise. Fans were left confused and upset; teammates were passively angry about being kept in the dark, and much more. However, KD’s agent handled it all and continues to keep his client in a positive light.

When Kevin Durant left the decorated Golden State Warriors, it confused the NBA community. This included the star’s former teammates as well. Why would Durant want to leave after such amazing seasons from day one?

The players felt that they deserved transparency from Durant. After all, they won two championship titles together!
However, KD’s manager, Rich Kleiman, came to his rescue. According to Kleiman, even though things were harsh after Durant’s exit, his client still has fond memories of his time with the Warriors.
“He has never regretted decisions,” Kleiman said on The Athletic’s “Tampering” podcast this week.
“(Durant) feels like his experience in the Bay was incredible. He went to three Finals, won two Finals MVPs, formed an incredible set of relationships for life there. Has incredible friends there (Steph Curry). So that situation was awesome.”
Talking about how KD feels great with the Brooklyn Nets now, even though he’ll be sitting out at the beginning due to injury, Kleinman revealed,
“He got to go to New York, where he wanted to play and play for an organization that he was interested in being a part of and he’s playing with a player he wanted to play with, and he did it his way. He chose where he wanted to be.”
Ultimately, Durant signed a four-year, $164 million contract with the Brooklyn Nets, with a player option in the last season.
We feel the community should not put Durant under a negative light for doing what he felt was best for his career, and that fans should respect his decisions, even if they don’t like it.
Why KD left the Bay Area
However, KD had his reasons. According to various interviews where he talked about leaving GSW, the 31-year-old power forward didn’t leave the Warriors because he thought the Golden dynasty was over.
Neither did he leave because he lost respect for the franchise or because he felt there was no growth, nor was it because of some harsh comments by his teammates.
Addressing his reasons in a press conference, Durant explained, “I felt like it was time for a change. I wanted to play for a new team. Simply put, I just did it. I didn’t really think about what I was leaving behind or what we accomplished. I put that up on the shelf already. When it was time to make a decision on my future, I just thought solely about me.”
KD’s reasons seem valid, because one has to look after himself in the league. Durant had similar reasons when he left Oklahoma City Thunder for the Warriors in 2016. That time, he told Stephen Jackson and Matt Barnes why he wanted to come to the Bay Area.
“That was my thinking going in before the year (2015-16). Obviously, I had a few teams, but the Warriors were a team I wanted to play for because of the movement they had, their passing, they led the league in assists … Playing with that team, that’s what I was thinking about.”

Well, we can say that Kevin Durant is that player in the league who looks after himself, without thinking about what others might think. The kind that will not entertain backlash from others for decisions he made for himself. Well, KD, we hope that always works out for you.
