Former Bucks Star Believes He Could Help LeBron James Win Championship Against Spurs in 2007

LeBron James won his first championship in the 2011-12 season with the Miami Heat. With the Big 3 of James, Chris Bosh, and Dwyane Wade, there was no stopping.

But this could have been much sooner according to former sharpshooter Michael Redd. He believes that if he would have joined the Cleveland Cavaliers in the 2005 free agency, LeBron could have had his first ring by beating San Antonio Spurs in the 2006-07 NBA finals.

Redd in an appearance in Heavy Live With Scoop B said, “You know, me and LeBron had that conversation over the years and we probably would’ve won a championship,”

Redd added, “At that point, my career – and LeBron was great back then, but he was not who he is now. His savviness, his experience what he learned from D-Wade in 2011, 2012 and 2013 he became a different player from the 2005-2007. But I think still though, with the cast that he had, I think we would’ve won a championship… I would’ve taken the pressure off him. I could score, close…yeah.”

What would have Redd added to the Cavaliers?

The 2006-07 Cavaliers had the second-best record in the East. They finally were able to defeat the Detroit Pistons and became the Eastern Conference champions.

If one was to look at the Cavaliers roster from the season, the team’s second-best player was Larry Hughes. He averaged 14.9 points, 3.7 assists and 3.8 rebounds for each game.

Michael Redd meanwhile was at the peak of his powers during the 2006-07 season. He averaged a career-high 26.7 points, 2.3 assists and 3.7 rebounds for each game.

The roster was filled with decent role players like Larry Hughes, Zydrunas Ilgauskas, and Drew Gooden, who could add 10-15 points per game and could defend.

Redd would have been the ideal second scoring option for the Cavs. He would have taken some load off LeBron and would have opened up some space for the King to attack the rim.

James did win a championship with the Cavs but had to wait for nine years to do so. That could have been a lot different if another scorer like Redd would have joined the team. The 2006-07 finals which was a sweep for the Spurs could have been a lot different if Redd was there with the Cavs.
