The NBA finally voted to keep December 22 as the tentative start date for the 2020-21 NBA season. This decision was on the receiving end of a lot of pushback from players and teams alike. However, it is now agreed upon. Since the NBA Draft is just around the corner with free agency, there has been a lot of chatter about possible trades. Even for Portland Trail Blazers’ CJ McCollum.

McCollum was chosen as the 10th overall pick in the NBA Draft 2013 by the Blazers. Ever since then, he has cemented his reputation in the league as a star. He was a big helping hand for Portland to reach the Western Conference Finals in 2019 until the Golden State Warriors defeated them.

The 29-year-old has shown consistency throughout his time with the Blazers, averaging at 22.2 points, 4.2 rebounds, and 4.4 assists. Even if the Blazers part ways with the shooting guard, plenty of teams will be interested in bringing him in. However, Former Blazers’ center believes that CJ holds tremendous value and shouldn’t be traded until they make the best offer.

Channing Frye warned the Boston Celtics on what it would take for them to gain McCollum. He said, “If you want CJ McCollum and somebody, you’d have to give me Jaylen Brown and Marcus Smart… That’s what I see CJ’s value as.”

Not only that, but Frye added Gordon Hayward with Marcus as another potential pair for the trade. The point Frye was trying to make was that a deal surrounding McCollum should be an excellent one because of what he’s worth.

CJ has proved that he has the potential to be a leader in another team. However, it also looks like he is extremely happy with the Blazers. Being used to playing alongside another star, he does an outstanding job as the secondary player. This could be a great asset for teams that are looking to add multiple stars within their roster.

Thus, Frye is right, and any team that shows interest needs to fight for him.
