The Golden State Warriors were hoping to make a blockbuster comeback this season. Their Big 3 Steph Curry, Klay Thompson and Draymond Green were all returning from long injuries.

The NBA was shocked when multiple reports emerged that Klay Thompson had yet again suffered from an injury. Later it was confirmed that the Warriors’ star has suffered from an Achilles tear in his lower right leg and will miss the entire season.

ESPN’s Nick Friedell in his recent appearance at the KJZ described the state of the Warriors’ camp post-Thompson’s injury. He said, “Everybody is just depressed.

“They were so excited leading into the draft, the fact that Wiseman was at number, he was their number 1, they were really looking forward to see Steph, Klay and Draymond and plug in Wiseman and seeing what we can give them.”

He added, “The range of emotions the couple of hours before the draft and the couple of hours after the draft, they really couldn’t celebrate because everybody was so sad for Klay.

“He is the guy behind the scenes with all the star power in the locker room that sets the tone for everybody else. That’s why Kerr and all those players love. so to know that he will be out again for another year was just crushing for everybody involved.”

The excitement before the injury

Klay Thompson suffered from a torn ACL in Game 6 of the NBA finals in the 2018-19 Finals. He missed the entire season of the 2019-20 season. The Dub’ also saw their star man Steph Curry getting injured. Without the Big 3, the Warriors finished with the league’s worst record.

Thompson has been one of the central figures in the team. Not only did he add 20 points in a quarter, but he also played a pivotal role in the defense. Although Curry is the face of the roster, Thompson is as important to them.

Klay had just returned to practice sessions with the team. He joined the Warriors minicamp, took part in some 3 on 3 scrimmages, and looked pretty promising in the practice sessions.

Considering how dominant the Big 3 have been over the years, the NBA were excited to see them return. The Warriors were certainly contenders for the title. With this injury to their star man, they are surely out of the title race.
